Bonebrake Financial Planning & Investments

Located in the Balzhiser & Hubbard Building (formerly the Eugene Public Library) in downtown Eugene, Bonebrake Financial Planning & Investments offers personalized, custom financial planning. This 1,400 sq. ft. “tenant infill” is in the northwest corner of the second floor. The original building, with its balanced proportions and bold horizontal lines, was built in 1958, designed by Hamlin & Martin, Architects.

The goal of the office design was to reflect the high quality of the services provided by David Bonebrake and his staff, and to compliment the integrity of the original building. The design process was a close collaboration between myself, local interior designer Siri Dharma Khalsa, and David Bonebrake’s wife, Mande May. Rich wood textures and paint colors balance with the “cool” lighting to portray a sense of sound and sober judgment. The steel roof trusses were kept exposed in the main space, while ceilings were lowered within the office spaces along the perimeter. Big windows were introduced on the north wall for view and natural day-lighting without glare, and the windows along the west were added onto to bring the sills down to a more user-friendly height. The concrete block of the elevator shaft was also intentionally kept exposed, cleaned up and finished, to add another layer of visual texture to the space.
