| Dillo Residence
Nestled high in the southern Colorado Rockies below the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, this modest home was actually designed and built to be an artist’s studio while maintaining a residential aesthetic. Owner and artist Sophia Dixon Dillo wanted an open, interior main space for creating her artwork; due to budgetary restraints, the design needed to keep the overall footprint to a minimum. Ease of construction and simplicity of structure were priorities to help achieve affordability.
Along with the main two-story studio space, the 900 sq. ft. of floor area also consists of a kitchen & dining area, a bathroom, and an office/bedroom; future additions will include a sleeping loft with viewing deck above the kitchen, along with a patio off of the dining area. North-facing skylights adorn the ceiling above the studio workspace, and a wood-burning stove will keep the place cozy. The owner was very involved from the start, brought a lot of good ideas to the table, and knew what she wanted when she saw it. Builder/general contractor Keith Teahen of Teahen Construction brought his professionalism, know-how and attention to detail to the project, making our shared vision a reality.
