The owners love their charming cottage-of-a-home, but with their growing family they needed a little more elbow room. First and foremost, the original dining room, which was tucked into a corner of the kitchen, had to go and the kitchen remodeled. A new dining room proper was added at the front of the house, and the dividing wall opened up to allow for a visual connection to the kitchen; the original dining area could now be used as a breakfast nook. New windows and skylights were also introduced to bring in natural daylighting. Smaller in proportion yet equally important to the project, a stackable washer/dryer alcove was added to one of the two bathrooms, and a sleeping alcove expanded onto the third bedroom. Last but not least, a small closet was added to the master bedroom as well, relaxing the space just enough to bring more comfort to its inhabitants.
