Skarin-Willey Residence

Situated along Fox Hollow valley in an open field surrounded by oak, fruit, and fir trees (to name a few), this ambitious 2,600 sq. ft. house with full basement, along with its 700 sq. ft. carriage house and 670 sq. ft. greenhouse, is going to be a “jewel box” worthy of its setting.  The owner/builder is a “renaissance man” in the classic sense of the term; like a “master-builder” of yore, he is and will be involved in every aspect of the project – from design, house placement, construction, and landscaping, to milling and applying the final trimwork, flooring, and cabinetry.  Along with being greatly inspired by the architectural works of Swedish artist Carl Larsson, the owner and his wife also wanted their home to be warm, welcoming, and bright to reflect their own exuberance for life.  The house needed to be able to showcase their extensive art collection from travels within the U.S. and abroad as well.

Equally passionate about the well-being of our planet as they are about their home, the owners wanted to go as “green” as they practically could within their means.  Sustainable features include owner-milled lumber from salvaged timbers, fly-ash concrete, Faswall ICF block walls, durable and low-maintenance materials, ground-source heat pump, hydronic radiant heat, solar domestic hot water, solar electric (prepped for future installment), rain-water catchment, natural day-lighting, energy recovery ventilator (ERV), energy-efficient appliances / fixtures, natural plaster and finishes, increased insulation, and native & drought tolerant landscaping.  Of special design interest is the inclusion of a residential elevator to allow for continual easy access of the three-story main house into the future.
