East Blair Housing Co-op

An AIA Oregon People’s Choice Award-winning project, East Blair Housing Co-op is located in Eugene’s historic Whiteaker neighborhood and gave new life to a vintage building with a careful mix of preservation, reconstruction, and added housing. The existing second-floor dwelling unit was lifted, maintained, and updated, while the first floor, foundation, and floor system were removed and rebuilt. By raising the first-floor ceiling height from 7'-0" to 10'-0", adding new wood stud walls, and replacing the original foundation with updated footings and a radiant floor slab, the project created a stronger, more comfortable, and more useful building. Two new dwelling units were added at the first floor, helping this well-loved neighborhood structure continue forward with renewed purpose, character, and life.
