More than a mere studio, this ADU is a small home that emphasizes quality over quantity. Owner-built for a young couple with a new baby, the 776 SF dwelling and 278 SF garage/shop are full of warmth, craftsmanship, and careful attention to detail. The original one-story studio and carport were transformed into a compact two-story home with a new garage/shop, clerestory windows, kitchen, pantry, living and dining areas, laundry, bathroom, office nook, upstairs bedroom, and viewing porch. At the heart of the house is a beautiful wood spiral staircase and handrail that celebrates a love of fine woodworking. Modest in size but rich in character, the project is a thoughtful example of how a small accessory dwelling can feel complete, personal, and beautifully made.
